Corrections Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-28

1. Plain-English summary

  • If a dispatch contains a factual error, we'll fix it and say so — visibly, on the dispatch itself.
  • Corrections are permanent on the dispatch page. We don't quietly edit and pretend nothing happened.
  • Readers and subjects can flag issues at corrections@joinstringer.com. We respond within 5 business days.
  • For NDA / confidentiality concerns from a writer's employer, see § 4.

2. What we correct

  • Factual errors. Dates, dollar amounts, named individuals or teams, quoted statements, technical claims about products, processes, or policies.
  • Misattributions. A quote attributed to the wrong person, an action attributed to the wrong team.
  • Material misimpressions. Where the writing is technically true but creates a false overall impression of a person, team, or company.
  • Privacy or NDA violations we missed pre-publication. See § 4.

We do not issue corrections for opinion, framing, or characterization the subject simply disagrees with. The writer's first-person perspective is the editorial product — disagreement with it is not grounds for correction.

3. How corrections appear

Three kinds of correction notices, each visually distinct and permanent on the dispatch:

Update
Minor factual fix that doesn't change the dispatch's meaning. Inline strikethrough + correction in [brackets]. Footer note: "Updated YYYY-MM-DD: [what changed]."
Correction
Material factual error. Highlighted "Correction" block at the top of the dispatch. Original text preserved with strikethrough so readers can see what was wrong. Footer note dated.
Retraction
Dispatch is fundamentally wrong or unsafe to keep published. The dispatch is replaced with a "Retracted on YYYY-MM-DD" note explaining why. The original text is not republished. Subscribers who already paid retain their subscription.

4. NDA / confidentiality flags from employers

If a writer's employer or a named third party believes a dispatch contains material covered by an NDA, trade secret, or confidentiality obligation, contact legal@joinstringer.com. We treat these flags seriously and quickly:

  • Same business day: we acknowledge receipt.
  • Within 3 business days: we review the flagged passage with our writer and counsel.
  • Within 7 business days: we either remove the passage with a published correction note, or explain (with reasoning) why we believe the passage is editorial fair use / not NDA-covered.

We do not pre-emptively pull dispatches based on a request alone. We do remove passages where the writer's underlying NDA does in fact cover them — confirmed against the writer's signed agreement.

5. How readers can flag an error

Email corrections@joinstringer.com with:

  • The dispatch URL or issue number
  • The exact passage you believe is wrong
  • What you believe the correct version is, and a source if you have one

We acknowledge within 24 hours and respond with a decision within 5 business days.

6. Public log

Every correction made to a Stringer dispatch is logged in a public corrections register at joinstringer.com/legal/corrections-log (live from launch day). The register includes the dispatch, the correction, and the date. We do not delete entries from the register.

This policy applies to all Stringer dispatches from issue 001 onward. We don't issue retroactive corrections on pre-launch site copy — that's just normal site editing. Pre-launch site changes go through normal Git history, not the corrections register.
